About the Topic
Product and process complexity in semiconductor manufacturing continues to rise steadily. However, even highly automated fabs like Infineon suffer from unfavorable and growing variability and losses in production effectiveness. This leads to unscheduled and costly delays in deliveries to customers. A crucial factor is the actual available capacity of production. Although theoretically well known, there is still a lack of appropriate modeling and information model to generate an effective, model-based, real-time updating overall view of production.
The focus of this work is to analyze the material flow of production and explore how it relates to the actual production capacity available. A new, innovative information model is provided, which supplies all necessary data structures (the so-called holistic information model = HIM).
The goal is to explore a statistical modeling approach that effectively and easily provides an overall view of production. For this purpose, the Bayesian knowledge-based statistical modeling approach shall be investigated. This overall view will include, among other things, a comparison of capacity, production rate (throughput) and work in progress (WIP).
SYSTEMA will provide a complete software framework, including the holistic information model HIM. Sample production data is available. More information on current research together with Infineon.
